International cooperation has been an important milestone of CDS since. 1995. Initially, it has 'been stablished mainly with French institutions, particularly with IRD (Institut de Recherche pour le Développement), Cirad (Centre de Coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement) and IHEAL (Institut d'Etudes sur TAmerique Latine). Further cooperation, projects have been developed with other countries as well. The SMART Network encompasses several South American and European countries. These international projects were followed by the PLUPH Project, with Canadian institutions, and the LUPIS Project, with 11 European and Developing Countries, including India, Indonesia and China. The Luso-Brazilian Network on Environmental Studies is another example of cooperation which includes African Countries. Nowadays, CDS has a network With more than 30 countries.
